Associate Members are national dental associations which are recognised by the FDI as significant representatives of the legal and certified dental profession in their own countries and which have fulfilled the requirements of membership but for reasons acceptable to the FDI, do not wish to hold regular membership.

This category of membership is not open to associations that are the sole representative national dental associations in that country. Such associations belong to the category of Regular Members.

Membership of the association should be open to all dentists in the country and the association's missions and goals should be in line with those of the FDI.

The main benefits of Associate membership are:

  • The right to be represented, to speak at the General Assembly – the highest international dental authority in the world and contribute to decisions taken which influence dentistry worldwide but not to vote
  • The right to propose and participate in the development of FDI statements
  • Contact with the FDI’s official links with the World Health Organization, the United Nations, the International Organization for Standardisation and other international bodies with whom FDI has official relations.
  • Free access to the FDI’s main publications; International Dental Journal, Developing Dentistry, and the Worldental Communiqué newsletter
  • Access to the publications of World Dental Press
  • Opportunity to participate in the FDI’s global Continuing Education programmes
  • Opportunity to participate in projects for the development of oral health and oral health care worldwide
