HIGH MEDIA COVERAGE FROM CONFERENCE ON ORAL HEALTH THROUGH FLUORIDE
In September of last year, the FDI, the World Health Organization, the International Association for Dental Research and the Chinese Stomatological Association held a joint-Conference on Oral Health through Fluoride for China and Southeast Asia. More than 100 dental experts participated in the conference. They confirmed in a final conference declaration that fluoride toothpaste remains the most widespread and significant form of prevention of tooth decay used worldwide and that it is the most rigorously evaluated vehicle for fluoride use.

The press conference and other media activites resulted in more than 50 media representatives from across China attending the meeting. 76 clippings covering newspaper and wire (49%), TV (5%) and websites (46%) were generated. Coverage appeared in some of the most important media in China, including CCTV, Beijing Daily, Yahoo.com.cn and Men’s Health.
Nearly 90% of the coverage focused on the declaration and almost 50% promoted the use of fluoride toothpaste as an effective and economical way to prevent dental caries in China. The number of positive reports about fluoride increased dramatically compared to a rather negative press for fluoride before the conference.
