WORLD HEALTH EDITORS NETWORK EVENTS
LONDON - In coordination with the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the World Health Editors Network (WHEN) held its first International Health Briefing in London, 23 November 2007, on HIV/AIDS in the run-up to World AIDS Day. Mr Stephen Lewis, former UN Special Envoy for AIDS in Africa, current Co-Director of AIDS-Free World and Professor in Global Health at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, gave the keynote speech, commenting on the UNAIDS Report issued two days before the Briefing.
WHEN Editors and London-based media heard about new data, publications and initiatives from a variety of agencies, including World Health Organization (WHO) Europe, Oxfam, ECDC, GTZ, Terrence Higgins Trust, Imperial College London, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and European AIDS Treatment Group.
GENEVA – During the week of the WHO Executive Board meeting, WHEN held a two-day briefing and workshop on climate change. The group explored climate change and health issues in relation to World Health Day 2008, health professionals, local authorities, the business sector, the transport sector, the youth and education sector and the general public. An advisory board meeting was also held in conjunction to the briefing and workshop to explore further development of WHEN.
