MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
In this last message as President of the FDI World Dental Federation, I am happy to report that our organisation is strong, focused on our Vision and Missions and that our finances are healthy. It has truly been an honour and a privilege to have been able to play a role in this process as your President. During my two years I had a unique opportunity to focus on excellence, medical positioning and ethics.

Dr Michèle Aerden
FDI President
But I would like to start off here by thanking all of my friends and colleagues from around the world for the support and generosity that they have shown to the FDI and to me over the past two years. You are the strength of the FDI. You are the FDI!
My position as President of this great organisation has allowed me to contribute to making an impact on the status of oral health around the world. In previous issues of Ferney Communiqués, now the FDI Worldental Communiqué, I have shared with you my numerous activities.
Only those many things have been made possible through my almost 60 visits as President to different countries, thanks to the assistance and contributions from the member associations. They have achieved, the sometimes a very difficult task, of coordinating the various events and meetings for me with high ranking officials. Congratulations to all of you who did it!
This allows the President of the FDI to make a difference by bringing attention to the importance of oral health, an integral part of general health, and its relevance to general well-being in the media and to the government in the various countries. Our member associations are then tasked with the follow-up and taking the work to the next level. I am extremely grateful and give them my personal respect and trust to all those field workers who dedicate so much of their lives time to our vision of “Leading the world to optimal oral health”.
I am convinced that what gives us, thousands of dentists from all over the world, the energy to volunteer in our profession is our very special doctor/patient relationship.
While it brings me much satisfaction in reflecting upon, not only to my contribution as President, but also my involvement with the FDI over these past 20 years, what I will personally treasure the most though are the friendships that I received from numerous colleagues and associates from around the world, from the time I was first a delegate of my national dental association, to being a member of various committees, to my term as FDI Councillor, and to now, as the President of this highly recognised organisation. The network of friends that I have made and the overwhelming support from members and dentists worldwide make my Presidency unforgettable to me.
At the FDI Annual World Dental Congress in Dubai, Dr Burton Conrod from Canada will be inaugurated as President. It was a privilege to work with Burton for many years and I am fully confident that he will continue to lead FDI upwards. In closing, I would like to once again thank you for all those memorable years together, for your confidence, your dedication and, most of all, for your friendship.
