MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The FDI’s vision, “Leading the World to Optimal Oral Health”, is a huge challenge and I firmly believe that we are making a positive difference in this regard. Our dental development programmes are improving access to care, establishing the value of health promotion and public education and improving the ability of dentists around the world to provide care to their patients.

2007 ELECTIONS RESULTS
There were six vacancies on the FDI Council and 11 vacancies amongst the five FDI standing committees to fill this year. In total, the FDI received 39 nominations from 29 countries. Below is a list of election winners.

FDI & SWEDISH DENTAL ASSOCIATION PREPARE FOR THE 2008 CONGRESS
Now that the 2007 FDI Annual World Dental Congress is behind us, the FDI will begin concentrating its efforts on the 2008 congress in Stockholm, Sweden. The 2008 congress will take place from the 24 to 27 September at the Stockholm International Fairs & Congress Center.

2007 POLICY STATEMENTS
Seven new policy statements and six revised policy statements were adopted by the General Assembly in Dubai.

GUIDELINES FOR CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The “Guidelines for Continuing Professional Development” booklet was developed by the Education Committee to assist National Dental Associations (NDA) considering the establishment of a CPD system for their members. It provides a summary of best practices of CPD currently in use internationally, explains how to set up CPD programme from scratch and how to achieve quality in a CPD programme.

IDEM SINGAPORE — 4-6 APRIL 2008
FDI to remain partner of IDEM Singapore in 2008 and 2010
Following the first successful cooperation between the organisers of IDEM Singapore (Koelnmesse and its Singapore subsidiary as well as the Singapore Dental Association (SDA)) and the FDI in 2006, the FDI has announced that it will also support IDEM in 2008 and 2010. IDEM Singapore is the Asia-Pacific region’s largest established dental fair with a regular frequency and a fixed location. The cooperation of the SDA and the World Dental Education Society, Singapore, with the FDI ensures that the congress programme accompanying IDEM Singapore will be of high quality.

POSTPONED: CONFERENCE FOR ORAL
HEALTH IN THE AMERICAS
FDI and WHO/PAHO announced that the Conference for Oral Health in the Americas has been postponed to 6-9 November 2008. It will continue to take place in Lima, Peru.
