Caries Prevention Partnership
The FDI-Colgate Caries Prevention Partnership (CPP) is a new initiative to enhance oral disease prevention through high quality caries educational communication materials and activities that target professionals, patients and the general public.
As part of the CPP activities, on 21-22 September 2015 FDI hosted a two-day expert meeting (a summit and a workshop) on caries prevention and control in Bangkok, Thailand during the FDI World Dental Congress. The purpose of the meeting was to identify and report in Proceedings the key issues of global and regional significance in caries management and propose solutions that FDI member associations can adapt and/or adopt in their countries.
The White Paper on Dental Caries Prevention and Management: A summary of the current evidence and the key issues in controlling this preventable disease, co-written by Professor Nigel Pitts and Professor Domenick Zero, provides an authoritative summary of both the current evidence and the key issues in dental caries prevention and management. Written for dentists and oral health workers working in a dental practice today, this paper identifies new approaches and steps for treating and managing caries.
To compliment the white paper, two webinars are available online, offering one Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit each: Caries Prevention and Management in Practice, presented by Professor Nigel Pitts and available until 22 October 2018, and Management of Caries as a Dynamic Disease Process, presented by Dr. Domenick T. Zero and available online until 15 June 2019.
To address policy, an Advocacy Toolkit was produced to help national dental associations in shaping initiatives focused on policy implementation for the prevention and management of dental caries, also referred to as tooth decay.
In order to recognize innovative and sustainable community outreach projects addressing the caries burden on a country level, the FDI Smile Award is awarded every year to two FDI Regular and Associate Members, with a value of US$4000.
