The award was presented by Singapore meetings, incentive, travel, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry, provides a mark of distinction for those in the industry.
Dr Choo was honoured for his successful bid for the 2009 FDI Annual World Dental Congress (AWDC) for the second time. The FDI AWDC first took place in Singapore in 1990 and brought 12,000 visitors to the city. Singapore’s bid for the congress included letters from ministers, as well as a special leather-bound book on Singapore’s hotel and convention facilities, its people and even its food. The 2009 congress will take place at the MICE Best Venue winner, Suntec Singapore.
As Programme Director for the FDI, Dr Choo has organised development programmes for dentists in more than 12 countries, showcasing Singapore’s expertise abroad. Dr Choo also oversees the International Dental Exhibition and Meeting (IDEM), which is held in Singapore every two years. IDEM was first initiated by Dr Choo in 2000. The attendance of IDEM has increased from 4000 visitors the first year to 5,700 in 2006. Dr Choo envisages that before long, a five figure attendance will be possible.
