Smoke-free Member Associations

“Smoke-Free Environments” is the theme of World No Tobacco Day 2007. According to the World Health Organization, 100% smoke-free is the only answer, because “neither ventilation nor filtration, alone or in combination, can reduce exposure levels of tobacco smoke indoors to levels that are considered acceptable, even in terms of odour, much less health effects.”

The FDI took this occasion to urge its members to promote smoke-free environments, in their workplaces, congresses and meetings. It is an ethical obligation for the whole dental team to ensure an environment that helps smokers quit. Smoking in a dental practice or health facility needs to be banned worldwide – the dental team and its working environment are important role models for patients.

In addition to the FDI's workplaces, congresses, continuing education sessions and meetings, the following FDI Member Associations are also smoke-free on either their premises or in their meetings and congresses.
