World Health Organization The FDI is in official relations with the World
Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. The Oral
Health Unit and the Responsible Officer, Prof Poul Erik Petersen,
are closely collaborating with the FDI on various issues as well as
other departments of WHO (ie the Tobacco Free Initiative). The work
is based on a three-year plan of joint activities. The FDI is actively
promoting the policies and approaches of WHO, participates on a regular
basis in meetings and consultations and gives input to WHO papers
and reports. |

FDI participates in technical briefing at the WHOThe World Health Organization in collaboration with WHO collaborating centres in oral health, the FDI World Dental Federation and the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) held a technical briefing on 15 May 2007 on “Oral Health in the 21st Century”. Representatives from the various WHO collaborating centres, Dr Michèle Aerden, FDI President, Dr John Clarkson IADR Past-President and committee member, Dr Ahmed Ogwell, Minister of Health from Kenya, Dr Charlotte Nidaye, WHO’s Regional Advisor for Oral Health for the African Region were amongst those present at the briefing. Presentations were given on country experiences, oral health promotion through research, health professionals and fluoride, oral health promotion in the various WHO regions, oral health in relation to diet and nutrition, oral cancer and global challenges of oral health promotion. The FDI President made a presentation on the supportive role of the FDI in the promotion of oral health worldwide. The presentations were followed by a question and answer session on oral health. The purpose of the session was to provide additional information and serve as a resource to Ministries of Health and stakeholders on oral health in relation to the resolution that was proposed for discussion and adoption at the 60th World Health Assembly. |
