Principal
Objects of the In accordance with Article 3 of its Constitution, the Zimbabwe Dental Association (ZiDA) has the following Principal Objects: (a) To support and improve the character, status and interest of Dental Surgeons generally. (b) To promote honourable practice, to repress malpractice, to settle disputed points of practice, to decide questions of professional usage and courtesy amongst Dental Surgeons and between Dental Surgeons and members of allied professions and also between Dental Surgeons and the public. (c) To scrutinize the legislation affecting the interests of the Dental profession and if found necessary to initiate changes. (d) To obtain statutory recognition of the Association and such other official recognition as may seem advisable. (e) To promote the art and science of Dentistry. (f) To circulate such information as may be thought desirable. (g) To foster and to improve Dental and general health of the public. |

Summary of the oral health services in Zimbabwe Oral Health Services falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare (MOHCW) and is governed by the Health Profession Authority (HPA) and the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (MDPC). The head of the ministry is the Minister of Health and under her/him there are 3 directors and various heads of department. Number of Dentists registered with the MDPC: 189 Most dentists are stationed in the urban areas ( 90% ) and the remaining 10% are in the districts. Dental therapists are stationed both in urban and rural areas. Some are engaged in private practice under the supervision of dentists. Dental hygienists work under the same roof with dentists and are all stationed in urban areas. There are no Dental Hygienists in Government. Dental Technicians are also all stationed in urban areas both in private and public laboratories. The Chief Oral Health Officer in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare (MOHCW) is: Dr. Francis SIBANDA and the Senior Dental Officer is Dr.Tapiwa NYAKUDYA. Currently there are 25 Dentists and 50 Dental Therapists employed by the Min. of Health.
