Global Antimicrobial Resistance in Dentistry (GARD) Network

Dentists are responsible for prescribing 10% of all antibiotics for humans internationally, yet compared to the rest of healthcare, the amount of research on dental antibiotics remains little.

To support dentists and dental teams in contributing to global research and best practice in dental infection prevention, antimicrobial use, resistance, and stewardship, FDI established the Global Antimicrobial Resistance in Dentistry (GARD) Network. GARD brings together colleagues with shared interests in these areas and promotes the implementation of evidence-based strategies to improve antimicrobial use in oral healthcare.

Membership of the GARD network is open to individuals with an interest or active involvement in dental infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship. This includes researchers with relevant publications from the past 10 years, FDI members interested in these topics, and stakeholders contributing to the development or implementation of stewardship-related policies and practices.

The GARD Network provides opportunities for individuals with an interest in dental infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship to come together to share their experiences, ideas and expertise.
