Continuing Education

Development through continuing education is an essential part of the dental profession. It is an important aspect of modern evidence-based dental practice. Furthermore, it is essential that dentists maintain an up to date clinical and theoretical knowledge of the art and science of dentistry. The Education Committee of the FDI World Dental Federation organises a number of events to support this requisite.

Topic: How The Conventional Non-Surgical And Surgical Periodontal Therapy Can Improve Periodontal Attachment Level?
Learning Objectives:
Scaling and root planning the so called mechanical nonsurgical pocket therapy is successful in improving clinical parameters especially around single rooted teeth. The literature provides solid evidence that mechanical nonsurgical therapy is efficacious alone without the administration of any antibiotics. The question is how effective the surgical therapy compared with nonsurgical debridement?  Surgical treatment is better for reduction of periodontal probing depth and the deeper the pocket the better its efficacy.  In conclusion if the main objective is reduction of probing depth, surgical therapy is preferable. If   the objective is to increase attachment level, nonsurgical therapy provides better short term results in shallow and medium sized pockets.
