Prof Faleh Tamimi Marino
Professor Tamimi’s translational research program is focused both on understating fundamental problems concerning health and disease in the oral cavity, and developing new technologies (i.e. biomaterials, drugs, AI) to manage pathologies of these tissues (e.g. bone fractures, osteoporosis, oral cancer).
He is a tenured Professor, and has held numerous leadership positions at McGill and abroad. Dr Tamimi has received ample recognitions and awards such as the VitalDent Foundation award, the Harry Rosen Award, the ACFD W.W. Wood Excellence in Dental Education Award, a Canada Research Chair Tier 2, and the Outstanding Research in Health Award form Qatar University, and Honorary Professors from the University of Jordan.
He has received research funding from many prestigious organizations such as CIHR, QRDI, NSERC, CFI, and has published over 250 peer-reviewed scientific articles

Abstract :
Oral cancer is not only one of the most lethal types of cancer, but it is also devastating for the life of survivors due to the deformities it causes to their faces. This disease can be easily managed with minimal consequences if diagnosed earlier. However, there is a global shortage of experts with the knowledge needed to detect the disease, specially in developing countries.
Here we discuss the creation of an artificial intelligence smartphone app designed to detect oral cancer at early stages.
In order to make sure the AI will be able to operate globally, we have built a global consortium with experts from around the world that in order to create and validate this app.
